Why it's different

Most bags are sold as one fixed setup. You find out the strap is too short, or that everything ends up in one pocket, after you've paid.

One wrong part is usually enough to retire the whole bag. Most of us have three or four of them in a cupboard.

Labo Mono, a small studio started in Hackney in 2018, sells its sling bag in parts instead.

Everything gets its own pocket, so you stop digging

Most crossbody bags are one open sack, so your keys sink to the bottom and your cables tangle with your earphones.

The Medium has 7 pockets and the Large has 12, plus elastic loops for a pen and a cable and a key hook clipped inside the front pocket. A structured frame holds the shape, so nothing slides into a pile.

You reach in and find the thing first time.

You design it yourself, down to the carabiners

In the builder you choose the size, shell fabric, colour, strap and hardware, and you see the finished bag before you pay.

Most slings come in black. This one comes in eleven colourways, from Black Dura-Tx to Chili Grid and Optical Purple.

It's a bag you made, not one you picked off a shelf.

If one part is wrong, you replace that part instead of the bag

A bag usually gets retired over one part: a strap that's too short, a buckle that digs in, a size that turned out too small.

Labo Mono sells every part on its own. The bag alone starts at €65, straps start at €20 and carabiners cost €19.

A strap that doesn't fit is a €20 fix, not a new €100 bag.

It opens halfway, or all the way flat

Two quick-release side locks sit on the zip. With them clipped on, the bag opens partway, so you can grab something one-handed without anything falling out.

Unclip them and it opens flat like a clamshell, so you can see everything at once on a desk or a hotel bed.

The rear pocket sits flat against your body and is lined with microfibre, so your phone screen doesn't get scratched.

Its zip tucks behind an elastic loop, which makes the pocket hard to spot from the outside.

It's small on purpose, and your strap moves with you if you size up

The Medium weighs 150g and holds 2.4 litres: enough for a phone, keys, wallet, cables, sunglasses and a 6-inch Kindle. It won't replace a backpack.

If you need more room, the Large holds 5 to 6 litres with 12 pockets, and every strap and module you already own fits it.

Your second bag costs you a shell (€80), not a whole new setup.

Built to last, with a Lifetime Warranty behind it

The shell is 840D high-tenacity polyester or double-laminated 210D nylon, with YKK zips throughout. It's water- and stain-resistant.

Bags, straps and carabiners are covered by a Lifetime Warranty. When one customer's carabiner hook started to wear after a couple of months, the team sent a new one.

Is the Medium big enough?

It fits a phone, keys, wallet, cables, sunglasses and a 6-inch Kindle. For a water bottle, an iPad mini or a travel day, choose the Large. Your straps fit both.

Is it waterproof?

It's water-resistant, not waterproof, so it's not for swimming. But it will keep your stuff dry in pouring rain.

Is the rope strap comfortable?

The climbing-rope strap is adjustable from 78 to 135 cm and works well for everyday essentials. For heavier loads or longer days, you may prefer the wider flat strap with an Alpine buckle. You can add a flat strap or Alpine buckle later, and swap straps whenever you like.

Straps swap in seconds, so you can change your mind later from €20.

Where is it made?

Labo Mono is a small independent studio, started in Hackney in 2018. The bags are designed in Europe, and the climbing-rope straps are made in France.

What if I choose the wrong setup?

Most wrong setups come down to one part, and every part is sold on its own, so you can swap a strap from €20 instead of replacing the bag.

Unused items can be returned within 14 days. Exchanges are free in France and the EU, and your first exchange is free in the UK on non-Archive-Sale items. US orders can't be exchanged, so return the item and place a new order.

Will I pay customs?

All duties and taxes are included.
